Guide to college scholarships and grants We recognize the value of investing in your future, and we are pleased to provide private education at a reasonable price. Every year, college tuition rises by three to four percent on average. To address this, we have lowered our tuition to make it more affordable for our students, Guide to college scholarships and grants and we also provide a number of scholarships to those who qualify. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ACADEMICS

SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS: Academic scholarships up to the following amounts may be available to incoming first-year and transfer undergraduate students with the following grade point averages (GPAs):

  • Presidential Scholarship: The Presidential Scholarship is Columbia College’s highest honor. This grant is given to outstanding students with a GPA of 3.8 or higher on an annual basis.
  • This annual prize is named after the year Columbia College was founded and is offered to students with a GPA of 3.5–3.79.
  • The Columns Scholarship is named after “The Columns,” a prominent emblem on campus. Columbia College was saved from a fire that destroyed the main building on campus in 1964. The Columns remained and became a symbol of the College’s extraordinary fortitude. Students with a GPA of 3.0–3.49 are eligible for this annual scholarship.
  • The Fountain Scholarship is named after the well-known fountain that stands in front of the Breed Leadership Center. The Fountain is known among Columbia College students as the site of one of the College’s most unusual traditions. Students with a GPA of 2.7–2.99 are eligible for this annual award.
  • The Koala Scholarship is named after our beloved mascot and is intended to assist students who have a GPA of 2.7 or lower.
  • *Honors: Eligible Honors students will receive $1,000 in addition to the level for which they were originally eligible. The Honors Scholarship Application can be found here.

In addition to any governmental or externally financed scholarship programmers, student-athletes may be eligible for athletic scholarships. Contact a member of our coaching staff today to learn more about Athletic Scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SPECIFIC PROGRAMS

You may be eligible for art, dance, music, or major-related scholarship as a Columbia College student. Contact your programmer coordinator or go to your major page to see whether you’re eligible for these scholarships.

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid if you are seeking federal, state, or institutional financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, work-study, and/or loans (FAFSA).

SCHOLARSHIP FOR MOMENTUM

The Momentum Scholarship is meant to reward ambition and honest dedication to making a difference in the world. It is specifically designed for students whose personal determination and engagement complement their academic achievements.

The Momentum Scholarship may pay a portion of tuition, and applicants will receive a personal leadership coach, paid summer internship opportunities, and housing on McNair Hall’s Academic Achievement floor.

Eligibility

Candidates must show leadership potential, high school or community involvement, and a commitment to campus engagement.

Eligibility for Transfer

If you want to transfer from another college or university, you must show the same degree of activity and community commitment as a first-year student, but you must additionally submit a reference from a school official, professor, church or community leader, Columbia College alumnus, or employer.

Before any considerations are taken, you must submit all relevant admissions papers as well as the transfer Momentum Application.

You must have completed both your college admissions application and the Momentum Scholarship application before the spring deadline for consideration to be considered for the Momentum Scholarship. Applications that are incomplete or only partially completed will not be accepted or examined.

Scholarships in South Carolina

South Carolina offers a number of scholarships to in-state residents who meet certain requirements:

PALMETTO FELLOWSHIP OF SOUTH CAROLINA

The Palmetto Fellows program recognizes students who have excelled academically. Students may receive up to $7,500 in their first year of study and up to $6,700 in the following years.

Eligibility

A student must be a full-time resident of South Carolina and have an SAT math/critical reading score of 1400 or higher.

  1. Based on the SC Uniform Grading Policy, a minimum 4.0 GPA is required.

OR you must meet two of the following three requirements:

  1. A minimum of 1200 on the SAT math/critical reading section.
  2. Based on the SC Uniform Grading Policy, a minimum 3.5 GPA is required.
  3. Be in the top 6% of their class when they graduate.

The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years if the student meets the state’s eligibility conditions.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR LIFE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

The LIFE Scholarship is given to students who have excelled in their studies. A maximum of $5,000 per year is available to students, which includes a $300 book allowance.

Eligibility

A student must be a full-time resident of South Carolina who meets two of the following three requirements:

  1. A minimum of 1100 on the SAT math/critical reading section.
  2. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required (UGP).
  3. Be in the top 30% of their class when they graduate.

The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years if the student meets the state’s eligibility conditions.

Upkeep of the Award

Full-time students must obtain thirty (30) non-remedial semester credit hours per year and enrolls in twelve (12) non-remedial hours per semester to qualify for the LIFE Scholarship. As a rising sophomore, you must finish thirty (30) non-remedial hours, sixty (60) non-remedial hours, and ninety (90) non-remedial hours, as well as achieve the state GPA standard.

HOPE SCHOLARSHIP IN SOUTH CAROLINA

The HOPE Scholarship is given to students who have excelled in their studies. A maximum of $2,800 per year is available to students, which includes a $300 book allowance.

According to the SC Uniform Grading Policy, a student must be a full-time resident of South Carolina and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

SOUTH CAROLINA TUITION (Guide to college scholarships and grants)

The South Carolina Tuition Grant is awarded to students who have demonstrated financial needs determined by their FAFSA. Students may be awarded a maximum of $3,300 per year.

To remain eligible for SC Tuition Grant, full-time students must earn twenty-four (24) credit hours per year.
